Book: Faefever (Fever series #3)

Faefever (Fever, #3) Faefever by Karen Marie Moning

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
She's survived so much but can Mac survive Jericho Barrons?

Something big is coming on Halloween (Samhain) and all the others out there like Mac know it. The entire book is a lead up to the night of Samhaim with Mac spending the entire night hiding out.

To tell you the truth it was kind of disappointing seeing as the first two books in the series were so good. Oh well ... Dreamfever comes out in January 2010.

Book: Swimming Without A Net (Fred the Mermaid Series #2)

Swimming Without a Net (Fred the Mermaid, Book 2) Swimming Without a Net by MaryJanice Davidson

Fred is just that kind of lucky girl. Thomas knows she's a mermaid and tells her he loves her ... Artur (High Prince of the Black Sea) wants to make her she-who-will-be-queen.

Problem? Fred just wants to be Fred. And now she's being summoned by his Highness the king down to Florida because there is to be a gathering of the merfolk. Some want to reveal their existance to the humans. Some want to stay hidden. And the king wants Fred's opinion since her "lady - mother" is human and her father was UnderSea Folk ...

speaking of which ... turns out Fred's father was a traitor, in the worst sense. He tried to kill the king and take over ... 30 years ago and was exiled ... which is when he climbed up on that beach on Cape Cod and on Fred's mom, Moon Bimm.

Now Thomas is back from Scotland and Fred is being harassed by both men who say they want her. What's a girl to do?

Book: Sleeping with the Fishes (Fred the Mermaid Series #1)

Sleeping with the Fishes (Fred the Mermaid, Book 1) Sleeping with the Fishes by MaryJanice Davidson

My review

mermaids ... named Fred. Ok ... her name is Fredrika. And she doesn't like the ocean. Too many talkative fish and nasty sea weed that gets caught in her hair. Then again, Fred is a Ph.D. in Marine Biology who works at the New England Aquarium. So she's got enough fish to worry about.

What happens when a stranger walks into her life and upsets everything ... a gorgeous marine biologist and close on his heels is the High Prince of the Black Sea (aka Prince Artur ... king-in-waiting of all Undersea Folk).

What's a cranky, argumentative Fred to do? Have an adventure.

Good read ... not terrific but good enough so I read the rest of the series.

He knew he loved ever since Jeremy Burns was 22 and that delicious little 18 year old, Jillian Murphy, waltzed into his life. But he was a womanizer by name, and their love was just never meant to be.

But what happens when Jeremy is forced to return to the pack, put in his number of kills (from his Blood Running days) and be accepted back into the community? Book: Last Wolf Standing (Blood Runners Triology #1)

Last Wolf Standing (Blood Runners, Book 1) (Silhouette Nocturne) Last Wolf Standing by Rhyannon Byrd

All it took was a moment for Mason Dillinger to know that Torrance Watson was his. He smelt it. He felt it, in ever fiber of his being. This girl was his.

Problem? He's a Blood Runner. The off-spring of a purebred werewolf and a human. He's got to prove himself to the pack by hunting down rogue werewolves who have given into their blood lust and are killing innocent humans for food.

Tori didn't have a place in his world until a psychotic killer realized what Mason had just stumbled upon (his mate). Now the next victim will be Tori if Mason can't protect her and figure out how the killer and his pack are connected.

Great read for lovers of werewolves.

Book: The Billionaire Boss's Secretary Bride

The Billionaire Boss's Secretary Bride (Harlequin Presents) The Billionaire Boss's Secretary Bride by Helen Brooks

My review

rating: 2 of 5 stars
I picked this up as something to read when all my holds at the library hadn't come in yet. I've never actually read a Harlequin book before.

And to tell you the truth now I know why.

The plot was long and drawn out to the point of annoyance. In any other format someone would have taken the two main characters and either hit them before being so stupid or shoved them in a locked broom closet together and thrown a box of rubbers at them with the message to "just get it on already."

Not a big fan.

Book: Scions: Revelations (Scions Triology #3)

Scions: Revelation (Silhouette Nocturne) Scions: Revelation by Patrice Michelle

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Now that Landon has resumed his position as the Lupreda Alpha, with his female Alpha Kaitie by his side, what's a second to do? Caine Grennard has no idea.

To keep from turning zerker (half man/half werewolf for the rest of his life), Caine has removed himself from the Lupreda pact. And the prophecy shoves it's lovely head into another life.

Drawn out of her sheltered life, Emma Gray is forced to find her aunt when she is kidnapped. Can the man with the more than alluring scent help her? And if he can't, can anyone?

Life starts to throw Emma and Caine curve ball after curve ball as it often does. Emma is kidnapped ... twice. Caine rescues her only to have her find out he is a werewolf. She seems ok with that until ... she finds out she too ... is different.

Emma is a Velio. A were-jaguar that was made by the werewolves for something to "hunt" (just as the werewolves were made to hunt for sport by the vampires). Only Emma is one of two Velio that can shift at will and do not need an injectible drug to do so.

Will the prophecy ever be filled?

Landon, forced out of his wolf pack, the Lupreda, because of a problem with his tracking senses. So, he can't smell as well as everyone else. Big deal.

Tormented since the night he mistakenly took the life of a police officer, Landon Rourke has watched over his one and only child, Kaitlyn McKinney. Watching her grow from a toddler into a beautiful young woman and then a stunning adult, Landon has protected Kaitie when ever he could.

But can he protect her from her biggest threat ... him.

As part of the prophecy, Landon finds himself drawn to Kaitlyn, who is a drawn to him. That is ... until she finds out who killed her father. Landon.

Who is in more danger, Landon or Kaitlyn as love takes over and pushes them both together time after time. And what else has fate in store for them?

Great second book in this series. More sensual than the first book without being "raunchy."

Book: Scions: Resurrection (Scions Triology #1)

Scions: Resurrection (Silhouette Nocturne) Scions: Resurrection by Patrice Michelle

rating: 4 of 5 stars
More urban fantasy than paranormal romance with a touch of fantasy. Fantastic read and a great start to this series.

Banished from his vampire pack, The Sanguinas, Jachin Black has come to despise humans. After all, it was human who first created vampires as a military weapon. And then ... tried to exterminate them all when they realized that they weren't so easy to control.

At first, the vamps preyed on humans, some killing their food and some not. Vampire attacks were a common thing. Then ... slowly, human blood started to poison them. They were reduced to feeding from each other.

Ariel Swanson still remembers the night her mother, father, grandmother and grandfather were killed ... by vampires. And then in the ensuing sorrow, her brother commited suicide. How does she choose to deal with her issues? By writing a book about it.

Her book, as it turns out, is, almost word for word, the truth. What she thought was fiction turns out to be fact. And she knows the prophecy. The prophecy that Jachin recieved from an elder Sanguina on his death bed.

Is Ariel piece of the prophecy? Jachin sure thinks so. And he's going to do everything in his power to bring her into the Sanguina manor and give her to the leader of the pack. Anything ... for the prophecy.

But what happens when he starts to fall for her?

Book: A Highlander of Her Own (Daughters of the Glen Series #4)

A Highlander of Her Own A Highlander of Her Own by Melissa Mayhue

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
I waited a long time to get this book from the library and I was not disappointed.

As often happens to the poor women of the decedents of a Fae prince named Pol, Ellie Denton was just living her life until she was thrown around by magic conferred on her suddenly. Ellie is wisked away from present day Texas to 14th century Scotland.

She finds herself at the mercy of the MacAlister clan. The very same clan from all the other books. Here comes Caden MacAlister, the once jilted bethrothed of Alycie (now a nunon the island of Iona). Turns out there is treachery afoot and Caden wants nothing to do with Ellie.

Ellie wants nothing to do with him either. Well ... maybe not nothing. Maybe a little something. Something like love?

A great and heartfelt romance that travels into the emotional underbelly of Caden and Ellie's love. Not high on the "sex-scene" meter (2 total) but the writing more than makes up for the blatant sexuality.

The Black Dragon (Dragon Series #2)

The Black Dragon (Dragon Series, Book 2) The Black Dragon by Allyson James

My review

rating: 1 of 5 stars
I decided to give this book a chance because I read the first one (Dragon Heat). It wasn't very good at all! I kept putting the book down and walking away, hoping to find another good book to read. The first book wasn't that good so I don't know what I expected. Probably a miracle. A miracle I did not get.

The writing was labored and pedantic. I was bored less than 5 pages in. The language and dialogue was forced and tin-y. I had the third book in this series in my possession (from the library) and I had to send it back because I couldn't stand the first two books. Very very disappointing.

The Bewitched Viking (Viking I Series #4)

The Bewitched Viking (Includes: Wink & a Kiss , #1; Viking I, #4) The Bewitched Viking by Sandra Hill

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Another great book by Sandra Hill.

Tykir just wants people to leave him alone so he can harvest amber and return to his home of Dragonstead in the Norse country.

Alinor just wants her idiot brothers to leave her alone so she can continue to raise the sheep that make her the finest wool in all of Northumbria.

But there is always a hitch. When Alinor "curses" a certain king's "manroot" to fall off and then said king gets a kink in his ... "manroot" ... well said King thinks that Alinor is a witch. He sends a messenger out to get Tykir and asks him to find the witch and bring her back to him.

Tykir doesn't want to ... but then the messenger lets poor Tykir know that the king is holding Adam (his adopted nephew) as a friendly hostage. What's a good Viking to do?

Go out and kidnap the witch that is ... problem? Alinor is NOT a witch.

Hilarity ensues.

A great read. Not as good as some of Hill others but this was an early novel in her series (Viking I). They all seem to get better in time.
