I, actually, had a hard time remembering that I even read this book when it was time to write this review!

Big Girls Do It Better (Big Girls Do series #1)

This book was free from Amazon.com here at the time of this blog’s publish date.

AuthorJasinda Wilder

Rating: X (for some explicit sexual content)

Bookshelves: 2013, BBW, erotica, fiction, Jasinda Wilder, rock star, romance, singer

Begun: January 2, 2013
Finished: January 2, 2013

Media Type: eBook (read on Kindle app on Nexus 7)

Setting: an urban setting

Characters: Anna Devine, Chase Delany, Jeff

Synopsis: “Two things get me into trouble: food, and my mouth. That’s how it all started with Chase: first food, then my mouth.” Wilder’s first book in the Big Girls Do series is a romp into Anna Devine’s affair with the sexy rocker Chase Delany. A karaoke DJ at a dive bar … called The Dive … Anna is struck when she literally stumbles into the tall, dark, and handsome Chase. She can’t understand why Chase wants to sit near her at the bar and why the heck he seems interested in her. She actually takes it as a joke. Why would a guy as hot as Chase be interested in a BBW like Anna? Could he really be into her?

Review: I liked Wilder’s Big Girls Do It Better. She portrayed Anna just as I think a strong BBW would be. Internally, she’s self-doubting and self-effacing as any respectable BBW is. Internally, us fat girls are a little fragile. Externally, Anna is a strong warrior who wears bustier and sexy shirts. I love Chase but I hope he doesn’t turn into a pansy or wreck Anna’s heart in later books in the series.

In my opinion, this book gets:
4 out of 5 stars

Review: This was a strange read. I definitely could tell that this was a part of a larger series. I just couldn’t tell where it was from (was a 0.5? or a 4.5? I couldn’t tell). Strong writing and characterization but weak on the details that would have made this novella a strong stand alone. Short and sweet … I might consider reading other books in this series but I don’t think I would go looking for these books unless I had nothing else to read.

In my opinion, this book gets:
Just ok read

BookHelp Wanted (Fantasy Heights series #1)

AuthorMeg Silver

Rating: X (for mature audiences – explicit sexual content)

Bookshelves: 2013, burlesque, erotica, Fantasy Heights series, fiction, left at the altar, Meg Silver, USA

Begun: January 2, 2013
Finished: January 2, 2013

Media Type: eBook (read on Kindle app on Nexus 7)

Setting: undisclosed location (assumed USA)

Characters: Amanda, Stephanie Watson

Synopsis: Amanda is a woman looking to change her life. Looking for a new life has preoccupied Amanda’s life after her fiancé left her for her barely legal sister … at the altar. In a random little store, Amanda sees a postcard for a business looking for new employees, Fantasy Heights. After the owner of the store calls Stephanie Watson, the owner of Fantasy Heights, Amanda is sent up to the resort on the hill for an interview … a naked interview …

Review: A good, quick read which was very sassy and intriguing at points. I am interested in the character development of Amanda and the man she encounters in her first night of working at Fantasy Heights (and works with for a couple of weeks). The characters were not exactly flat but I think that if the story were longer that we (the readers) would get a better feel for the rounded-ness of each person instead what we do get which is interesting but not intriguing. I look forward to reading The New Girl, the second book in the Fantasy Heights series.

In my opinion, this book gets:
good book that I would recommend to other people

Hannah's Choice

AuthorSelena Kitt

Rating: X (for mature audiences – explicit sexual content)

Bookshelves: 2012, doctor’s exam, erotica, fiction, job interview, short story

Begun: October 12, 2012
Finished: October 12, 2012

Media Type: eBook (read on iBooks on iPhone 4)

Setting: doctor’s office – location undisclosed

Characters: Hannah McLean, Dr. Ralph Schultz

Synopsis: Hannah was given information about a new position opening at an undisclosed location by a headhunter. She was told the receptionist position would be paying $250,000 a year. And part of the interview included a doctor’s exam … a sexual exam …

Review: This short story was hot, hot, hot. Very well written and very explicit. I wanted to know more about the rich businessman that Hannah was interviewing for. It was kind of weird too at the end. She just walks out and decides not to finish the job interview/take the job. Why wouldn't Selena Kitt take the story to the next level and go through the story and flush it out. I’d love to know more about Hannah and the business man who had all these requirements for his receptionist.

In my opinion, this book gets:
Would read again

Doctor Knows Best

AuthorBetty Glen

Rating: X (for erotica and sex as main plot)

Bookshelves: 2012, erotica, fiction, medical, romance,

Begun: Dec. 16, 2012
Finished: Dec. 16, 2012

Setting: A doctor’s office (presumably in the USA)

Characters: Dr. Chad Carson, Eve Kline, Darlene

Synopsis: Eve Kline works in Dr. Chad Carson’s doctor office and has been having a huge problem … she can’t help but get aroused when Dr. Carson is around. It’s ruining her job and she just can’t stand for anything to bother her as much as Dr. Carson is. He’s sexy and passionate about his job but all Eve wants is to know what he’s like in bed. When her gynecologist cancels her appointment at the last minute, Dr. Carson offers to give her an exam (not knowing that this is for a sexual problem). What will happen when the sexy doctor is asked to help Eve with a problem that he is creating?!?

Review: Sexy and provocative, I liked this very short novella. Definitely not a long read but worth it for a short thrill. Dr. Carson’s character easily could have been mad a more dynamic character. But what can you do when it’s like 300 words long. I liked it and would look for other books by Glen.

In my opinion, this book gets:

The Stranger (Just One Night series #1)

This book was read as an Advance Reading Copy (ARC) provided for free by the publisher and NetGalley.com

BookThe Stranger (Just One Night series #1)

AuthorKyra Davis

Rating: X (explicit sexual content)

Bookshelves: 2012, ARC, California, cheating, erotica, fiction, Las Vegas, romance

Begun: December 18, 2012
Finished: December 18, 2012

Media Type: eBook (read on Kindle app on Nexus 7)

Setting: Las Vegas, Nevada and California

Characters: Kasie Fitzgerald

Synopsis: Kasie is about to enter into a boring, bland, and vanilla marriage with a man who hasn’t even asked her to marry him yet. But, he’s discussed the feasibility of finding the perfect diamond for the perfect girlfriend who will, undoubtedly, make him the perfect wife, too. But the problem is Kasie has been dragged off to Vegas but her adventurous friend who wants her to go out and flirt with men and drink with a stranger. Until she starts playing the tables and a gorgeous hunk of a man invites her back up to his room. How can she say “no?” When she gets back to California, what will happen when she finds out her mystery man is a new client at her firm?

Review: I’m not a huge fan of “cheating” stories, even when the cheating is justified away. Kasie is so wishy washy. I completely forgot that her name was something as different as Kasie. Kasie’s should be exciting and vibrant but this Kasie was just as vanilla as her horrible sounding boyfriend. And she can never make up her mind. Sometimes I found myself flipping back in the pages because I felt like I missed something. Details that seemed like they would be important were glossed over and forgotten.

Davis’s writing was good but not extraordinary. And the novella just seemed to … end. There was really no good conclusion and instead of it seeming like a cliff hanger, it was more like a door slamming in your face.

I’m not sure if I would read a second book in this series if I didn’t get it for free or from the library.

In my opinion, this book gets:
Just ... ok.

Roman and Juliet (The Aerie Doms series #4)

Rating: X (explicit sex)

Bookshelves: 2012,Colorado, Denver, erotica, fiction, romance, USA

Begun: December 17, 2012
Finished: December 17, 2012

Media Type: eBook on Kindle app (read on Nexus 7) - FREE ON AMAZON AS OF DATE THIS BLOG WAS PUBLISHED

Setting: Denver, Colorado

Characters: Juliet Howard, Roman Grainger, Xavier Greer,

SynopsisJuliet is a submissive whom most dominants won't touch because she looks very frail and fragile with white/silver blonde hair and huge doe eyes. Juliet likes it rough though and is saddened by the few men who given her a second look at The Aerie (a BDSM club in Denver, Colorado). Until, that is, the sexiest cowboy she's ever seen steps out of her fantasies and walks into the club. Can Roman and Juliet make a connection?

Review: This was a good novella. Took about an hour to read and was very enjoyable since it was the fourth book in a series. You don’t feel like you are missing anything not having read other books in this series. The characters were dynamic and well rounded. Thacher is a quality writer. My only complain is that of the “book,” only about ½ of the book was the novella and the other ½ were the first chapters of her other three books in the Aerie Doms series. Granted, this wasn't so bad since they were all pretty good reads and enticed me to look up the other books. I just felt tricked that I would be reading more than what I had in front of me.

In my opinion, this book gets:
4 out of 5 stars (good book that I'd pick up again and recommend to friends)

Quick Review: Magical Clothes

Magical ClothesMagical Clothes by Nobilis Reed

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

If this had been written as a short story (very short story), I might have been an "alright" read.

But as it stands, I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend this as a book to-be-read to anyone.

Writing in the third person (from the female lead, Verity)'s perspective, Nobilis Reed doesn't do a very good job of capturing a female mindset. The entire novel read to me like a man try very hard to write what he believes a women must be thinking (while being "horny" (a word frequently used), turned on, or engaging in a sexual act).

Take out the sex scenes and the very bare bones of the plot isn't half bad. We meet a young woman, Verity (who we can assume is about 20ish), who was the girl that pointed out that the emperor was naked in the story The Emperor's New Clothes. She meets up with a man who we find out is out to bring down the government. And does so with Verity's help.

It's a little more convoluted but not by much. There is an entire part about a ball Verity must attend and her friend, Pearl, seducing her. Other than the discovery that Verity's secret cat burglar friend is really a nobleman, there is absolutely no point in this whole section.

I listened to this as a free podcast (thanks iTunes). I don't really plan to read anymore by this author.

Harmony's Way (Breed series #8)

Harmony's Way (Breed Series, #8) Harmony's Way (Breed Series, #8) by Lora Leigh

My review

rating: 2 of 5 stars
I'm really starting to get sick of Lora Leigh's writing. There doesn't seem to be much of a plot behind any of her novels ... or any true emotions. Just one character having a lot (and graphic sex) with another character who Lora Leigh then declares the mate of which ever character is breed.

Harmony's Way (Breed Series, #8) isn't much different. You find out Harmony is a Breed they formerly called Death. Her brother, who you are lead to believe wants revenge against her for killing their mother, sends her to Broken Butte, a small town in what I assumed was the southwest, to a man named Lance Jacobs, who is her mate. Harmony's brother, Jonas, knew Lance was Harmony's mate but we are never told how he knew.

The plot never really develops and there is a twist of fanatical supremists thrown in there but the book never really takes off. Poor excuse for a book if you ask me.
